Tobacco Reduction and Cessation

Are you thinking of quitting or cutting back on your tobacco use?

Quitting smoking can be difficult, but it’s absolutely possible—even for those with a strong dependence on nicotine. The good news is that regardless of how long you’ve been smoking, quitting will increase your lifespan and improve your quality of life. What’s more, getting help and following a plan will significantly increase your chances of quitting successfully.

This is where a Certified Tobacco Educator at Sherwood Park-Strathcona County Primary Care Network comes in.

Your Certified Tobacco Educator provides flexible and effective tobacco reduction treatment plans that use a combination of behaviour management techniques, follow-up counseling, and medication assessment and management, depending on the needs of the individual. Through one-on-one counseling sessions with a health care provider, patients receive support and guidance to:

  • Understand the pros and cons of smoking
  • Understand why quitting is hard
  • Identify triggers and behaviours associated with smoking
  • Manage stress without using tobacco
  • Prevent weight gain
  • Set goals in support of your smoking cessation plan
